Welcome to Class 6
Welcome to Year 2 in Class 6. Our teacher is Miss Elwick and Mrs. Smith is our teaching assistant. We are going to have an exciting year together, with lots of interesting new topics to learn about!
Autumn
In our Geography work we will be thinking about the area where we live and will investigate some of the important features of County Durham. We’re also going to be looking back into the past to find out why we have castles and what happened in them. We hope to investigate this further on a visit to Raby Castle. In Science, we will be finding out about living things and their habitats and looking closely at materials and their properties. We will be looking at mechanisms in DT and developing our skills so we can create our own moving pictures.
Spring
During our work this term we will learn about Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafzai and how the actions of individual people can help change the world. We will be thinking about why churches are important places to Christians and finding out more about the Easter Story. Our science work will look at the things we need to stay healthy and how we can change materials to create something new. We’re also going to be looking closely at nature in our Art lessons and will be using this to inspire our own sculptures, while in our DT lessons we will try out the tricky skill of sewing!
Summer
Our summer term will involve a study of the RMS Titanic. We will use different sources of evidence to investigate what life would have been like on the ship at that time and identify the causes and consequences of the Titanic sinking. During this term we will also be finding out about the world’s oceans and seas and will use this to inspire our artwork. We will be using our computer skills to create some digital artwork as well as creating a simple presentation with text. In Science, we will be investigating the plants and microhabitats in our school grounds as we continue to learn about the world around us.
