On behalf of the Governors and Staff I would like to welcome you to Shotton Hall Primary School Website. I am very proud to be the Headteacher of such a wonderful school. We are committed to our school being a happy place for young people to learn and thrive. We have grown a passionate governing body and excellent teaching team to ensure we are providing high quality and safe education for all pupils in our care.
Since my arrival in January 2015 we have made many positive changes in aspects of school life. We listen carefully to what our families and children are telling us and use this information to inform future practice.
We continue to take SHPS forward offering our pupils the very best possible wide and varied learning experiences which prepare them for life as good citizens able to make a positive contribution to society. We thoroughly enjoy meeting with our ex pupils who visit and we take great pride in knowing we have contributed to the people they have become.
At the heart of our school is our SHINE vision which informs our school priorities- for all our pupils to be Safe, Happy, Inspired and Nurtured towards Excellence. This mission permeates all of our work in school.
Our work on Building Learning Powers supports our children to develop lifelong learning skills of reciprocity ( working together) resilience ( never giving up) resourcefulness ( taking charge of own learning) reflectiveness ( thinking about learning and making improvements) and respect – this is the basis for our reward system.
As a GOLD level 2 Rights Respecting School we use the National Convention for the Rights of the Child to give us a framework to ensure all pupils receive a good education and are safe and happy in our care. We also have other awards such as the Music mark, the Inclusion Quality Mark and the Silver School Games Mark.
We know that it is essential that all pupils learn to read and write well and basic skills in English and Maths is a top priority. We value our strong partnership with parents and carers to jointly support all pupils to develop a lifelong love of reading.
We offer a wide range of activities in lesson time and out of school- our playground is a hive of activity at break times with events and games including swing ball, parachute games, dancing, skipping, football, hockey on the multi games area, all being led by adults to ensure our pupils have a happy playtime and develop healthy attitudes to sports and games to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We take part in many events and festivals with other local schools. We run a range of sports after school clubs every night and some in the morning.
We have a breakfast club starting at 7.45 am and home comforts after school club ending at 5 pm where we offer high quality safe care and provision for our pupils including a homework club. In these clubs children are supervised by well trained staff who work as a team to ensure our children have a safe and happy start and end to the day.
Our website is packed with useful information and the interesting events we have at Shotton Hall Primary School. On our Facebook page there are photographs of the many exciting things which happen whilst we are at school, and some of a small sample of the excellent work produced daily by the children at school – these things undoubtedly make Shotton Hall Primary school a very special place to be.
But our school is really all about our wonderful pupils from age three to eleven. We are a happy and hard working school family and are part of the ‘happy schools’ initiative. Our staff make a huge commitment giving many hours of their own time to develop programmes of learning. We enjoy learning together and sharing new experiences which are exciting and fun.
Our pupils are extremely well behaved with impeccable manners and show respect for all others in the community. We receive many positive comments from the public regarding our children. Our pupils take good care of each other and make sure we are all safe – they speak well about how to keep safe, particularly when on line and we work closely with families to help the support pupil’s safety.
This year our children have chosen a class charity to support as well as our whole school initiatives.
We believe SHPS is a marvellous place to learn together. It is a special and caring place to be and all members of the school are welcome and valued. We are proud of our inclusivity and our ability to cater to a wide range of pupil needs. Our governors work relentlessly to ensure the school is being well led and the priorities are being addressed. Parent governors work on our families’ behalf to ensure children are well taught and provision is the best possible we can provide. Governors can often be seen in the school working to improve the provision for pupils.
We know that our school could not achieve all that it does without the full support of our families and we welcome parents and carers in to meet with us to discuss their children at their convenience. As Headteacher I try to make myself or a member of my senior team available at any time to support. We believe in prompt and decisive action and this makes sure the school can stay focused on the business of learning and barriers to this are dealt with quickly and successfully.
I look forward to meeting with you as you visit the school. Please keep an eye on this website and our Facebook page to find out more about your child’s learning-feel happy to ‘like’ our pages! Happy Browsing!
